bbcoach

We are currently actively searching for a coach for our boys basketball team, and I wanted to reach out to our Emmanuel-Faith families in case someone may be interested or knows someone who would be a good fit.

At this point, we do not have a coach in place, and I want to be upfront that if we are unable to find someone willing to coach, we unfortunately will not be able to have a boys basketball team this season. We would really love to be able to offer this opportunity to our boys, so I wanted to provide some information about what coaching would look like.

🏀 What Does Coaching Boys Basketball Look Like?

Practices:

Practices can begin in December. During December, our Christmas program setup will take up part of the gym, so we will only have half of the gym available for practices during that time.

Our girls normally practice first from approximately 3:30–5:00, with the boys practicing afterward. That would put boys practice around 5:00–6:30, but the practice schedule and length are very flexible. As the coach, you can decide what works best for you and the team connecting with the girls coach as well too.

We typically do not practice on Wednesday evenings, so the normal practice days would be:

  • Monday

  • Tuesday

  • Thursday

  • Friday

Games:

I generally try to schedule about one game per week. Depending on other schools' schedules and whether they have a team available, the boys will have approximately 12 games, give or take, including tournaments.

We had a lot of boys participate last year, so we were able to play quite a few B and A games, giving the boys plenty of opportunities to get on the court.

Some dates already on the calendar include:

  • January 11: First boys game — both B & A games at home

  • January 16: Chad Chap Saturday Tournament — typically two games at home

  • January 23–24: Roundball Tournament in Arlington

  • February 26–28: C Club Tournament

  • Early February: There has previously been a Nebraska Lutheran Tournament. They were unable to host it last year, but if they bring it back, that could be another tournament opportunity.

I will continue working on the basketball schedule as volleyball gets closer to wrapping up. If there are certain days that would work especially well for you to have games, I am happy to work around your schedule as much as possible. Just give me a heads-up!

📱 Communication & Organization

We use the SportsYou app for team communication. I will get everything set up for you and help get the team information, schedule, and communication ready to go.

You would handle the day-to-day communication with your team through the app, while I take care of the behind-the-scenes setup and scheduling and am always available if you need help with anything.

Overall, I try to make the coaching commitment as manageable and flexible as possible while still giving the boys a great season and plenty of opportunities to play and compete.

If you have ever thought about coaching, or if you know someone who might be interested, please reach out to me! You do not need to have everything figured out before contacting me. I am happy to answer questions, talk through what the season would look like, and help however I can.

Thank you for considering it and for helping us continue to provide these opportunities for our students!

Please let me know if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Thank you!
